Gary Hughes - 'Once and Future King Part 1' (Japan - Marquee/Avalon Records 2003, Europe - Frontiers Records 2003)

Recorded between June 2002 and May 2003. I had joined Ten in the January of 2002 at which time the band was promoting their new album 'Far Beyond the World'. We played a headline tour of Japan, a UK Tour as special guests with Asia and festivals in Bradford, Paris and Budapest. The day after the plane from Hungary had touched down at Manchester airport we got stuck into the guitars for Gary's new "Once and Future King" project'. This was to be a two-part rock opera, based on the Arthurian legends, that had been planned for some years. The two albums were recorded as one lump of over twenty two songs and after having been playing live since the beginning of the year it was good to be back in the studio. As with all Gary Hughes produced albums the guitars were the first thing to go down, which meant that even the guitar solos were done before any bass, drums or vocals. If memory serves the guitars took about four or five weeks in all. These sessions got me playing various styles and feels that were pretty new to me, such as speed metal and funk/disco (I shit you not).
